Praise for Darren Bosson

Today Chapeltown Athletic, Hoyland Falcons and Junior Blades were refereed by Darren Bosson. All our parents commented on what an amazing job he did. He showed real concern for each players welfare and for each decision he made it clear to all players why he’d given what he had. He refereed with a sense of humour and allowed the games to flow without any issues. He was a credit to all referees and made our first cup final an occasion we could all enjoy

Praise for Spire Rangers U8s and referee Poppy Wyn.

Spire rangers were the perfect hosts today in the cup. They were very organised and made everyone feel welcome and really are a credit to grassroots football. A big thank you to the Spire Rangers club secretary she was also amazing today.

Big thank you to Poppy Wyn (referee) she was excellent today.

Praise for Lucas Eaton

Just a quick email, to say about a young lad called Lucas Eaton who plays for Charnock Ridgeway 7s, told the ref today, that he had actually kicked the ball out for a corner after the referee had originally given a goal kick. Great sportsmanship from a lad so young, think he needs a mention on jun league.

Praise for Noah Walsh

Just want to mention the referee today noah Walsh.

He recieved some stick a coue of week ago at a match and was a bit upset at it. Today he returned to the place where it happened and refereed a game in a superb manner and for a young referee to come through and face it again. He was flawless today really good head on him for such a young referee. He will go far if he chooses to, well done young man keep up the good work

Praise for Matthew Taylor and Jay Barnfield

Just want to say well done and thanks to Mathew Taylor & Jay Barnfield for this weekend.

We've played 2 games in 2 days and in a time where lots of people are moaning about refs these 2 men have been a credit to referees. Always fair and while today's game had some pretty hard but fair tackles going in, young Jay made some great calls let the game flow as much as he could.

Middlewood, Aden Steelers and Porter

Just wanted to send you a note regarding our U8’s cup round at Waverley Lane. We hosted Aden Steelers & Porter FC along with our own U8 Black and I have to say in 10 years in junior football this was one of the most positive and enjoyable experiences I have witnessed.

All three groups were exemplary in both behaviour and positivity and all seemed to thoroughly enjoy the day but I would like to thank Khalid Salih in particular from Aden Steelers for adding a touch of class to an already brilliant day.

Having watched his young team win a penalty shootout to decide the 2nd/3rd place playoff Khalid came over and gave the Middlewood goalkeeper one of the silver medals as man of the match for his performances throughout the tournament - a lovely gesture!

More Praise for Poppy Wynn

We have played our u8 singles Sheaf final today at Spire Ranger Cyclones vs the home team, Ecclesfield Red Rose and my team Wickersley Youth Reds.

The final was played in superb spirit by all teams and made for for one of my fondest days in grassroots football.

After a great day of football by all teams my overwhelming feeling is to ensure you, the league, receive our feedback on today's referee - a young girl called Poppy Wyn. Not only did she manage the expectation of 3 sets of coaches on finals day she also managed to ensure the players received constant feedback on things such as throw ins, goals kicks, pass backs etc but also constantly provided positive feedback to all players about passing, tackling, positioning and all round good play. In today's game this interaction can be lacking so for a young referee I think it's even more impressive.

I've never wrote feedback in this manner but felt it's all too easy to allow the opportunity to pass us by. Poppy was a superb referee, mature beyond her years and I hope she continues on her current path. I wish more referees engaged in this level of positive feedback and we should go out of our way to ensure this talent is recognised and praised - well done Poppy and Spire Rangers.
