Namutumba Kids Football

On behalf of Bramley Sunnyside JFC I would like to offer our thanks for those who have responded to our appeal for equipment to send over to our friends at the Namutumba Kids Football academy in Uganda. Donations from clubs such as Brampton United and Eckington BFC have been particularly useful and are greatly appreciated.  To date we have collected almost 100 pairs of boots, several footballs, a selection of kit, shin pads, goalie gloves and even nets.

To remind everyone, the Namutumba Kids Academy is a community based organisation which is related to an orphanage in the slums of Eastern Uganda.  Whilst our children are fortunate to have an organised and structured football association, playing facilities and simple items such as kit and footballs it is normal in Namutumba for the kids to fill a plastic bag with rubbish then seal it up using banana tree leaves to have a makeshift football.  They often play barefoot and don’t have simple items such as football shirts.

We are therefore collecting pre-loved boots, kit, balls, bibs, cones, gloves, shin pads etc which we intend to send over to the orphanage’s academy to try and provide them some help to enjoy the game like we do.

As we are just a few weeks away from the new season it seems a good time to revisit our message as teams replace their old equipment and kit with new.  Please note that we aren’t asking for anyone to spend any money to provide anything new, we are just hoping for old boots that might be laying about in the garage and the odd football that’s been in the back garden all winter etc.  What we throw aside are items that some of these kids will treasure.
