First South Yorkshire, one of Sheffield’s local bus operators, is showing its support for grassroots football by displaying team badges from the Junior Sunday league.

Over 89 clubs from the Sheffield & District Junior Sunday Football League have their team’s badge displayed on the back of a First South Yorkshire bus in Sheffield. The bus operator is the Official League Sponsor of the Sheffield & District Junior Sunday Football League and as well as providing sponsorship to the league, the local bus operator promotes discounted bus travel to teams.

The bus operator is aiming to encourage more young people to travel by bus whenever possible and is making bus travel easier than ever before through ongoing investments in mobile ticketing, app developments and staff training.

Allan Riggall, Head of Commercial at First South Yorkshire, said: “We’re proud to be the official league sponsor of the Sheffield & District Junior Sunday Football League and to be doing our bit to support grassroots football. We’re committed to investing in our communities and encouraging more young people to travel by bus. We wish all the players the best for the remainder of the season and hope they enjoy scouting out their local team’s bus.

“We are committed to providing reliable bus services and supporting local Sheffield businesses and we believe the recent proposal for a Sheffield low emission zone allows buses to demonstrate their full potential. More people travelling by bus means fewer cars on the road, less congestion and, in turn, improved air quality.”

A spokesperson on behalf of the Sheffield & District Junior Sunday Football League, said: “The League is delighted to have First South Yorkshire as its sponsor. The sponsorship not only allows clubs to have their logo proudly displayed in the community on buses but also always clubs and players to benefit from funding from the league to improve and develop their clubs. £10,000 of the sponsorship money was donated to the Children’s Hospital and the remainder has been used to support and provide funding to clubs and those players under financial hardship to help pay their subscription fees.”
