On Sunday we had a player who had a cardiac arrest on the pitch in the Under 15 fixture between Stockbridge Park Steels and Maltby Juniors. His heart stopped and he wasn't breathing, two nurses - who were Mums from the other team, and our coach - who is a police officer, started CPR. They then got the defibrillator and shocked him to try to get his heart beating and back to the normal rhythm. He was down for 7 mins, once the ambulance arrived, they continued to save his life and managed to get him stable enough to take him to hospital.
From the players mum:
“We want to thank everyone who was at Daniel's match on Sunday. Everyone contributed to saving my sons life. From the ref who knew that a defibrillated existed, to the parents who ran to get it, the parents who lined the route for the ambulance so it knew where to go and of course the nurses and our coach that started his CPR and brought him back to us! Their quick thinking, not only saved his life but brought him back to us without any mental deficits. He has recovered amazingly and is spending time in hospital in Leeds to investigate what caused his cardiac arrest. The presence of the defibrillator saved my sons life. This amazing, life saving, piece of equipment is priceless! If we learn anything from this tragic event, please let it be that these defibrillators need to be in every sports ground, in every school and on every street corner! “
The League passes on it thanks to all those who involved who acted extremely fast and to save Daniel’s live - you are all truly remarkable hero’s. The League wishes Daniel a good recovery.
League funding is available, which could be used to purchase a de-fib, see https://junleague.com/news.php?newsid=2675 for details.
