My name is Curtis Sinclair and I am a doctoral research student at Staffordshire University within the Sport and Exercise Psychology department.

I am contacting Saturday and Sunday League football teams from across England to take part in a research study. Those that take part in the study will also have the opportunity to receive both feedback about the results and the possibility of accessing sports psychology input at the completion of the study.

The primary focus of the study is around grassroots football with a keen interest in how being a member of a particular team might have an impact on different outcomes, such as motivation, performance, and physical health.

The study would run over a period of approximately 3-months, which would coincide with the beginning of the 2017-18 season. Anybody wishing to participate would be asked to complete 2 surveys: one at the start of September and a follow-up in approximately 3-months, taking around 15-20 minutes to complete on each occasion.

If 8 or more players from a single team complete both surveys you and your team will receive unique and specific feedback relevant to your team. This feedback might be useful in terms of, for example, improving your team’s performance over the remainder of the season. Every participant will have access to a summary of the overall findings of the study when they are published.

Additionally, I would like to offer 25 people who complete both surveys the opportunity of receiving a free individual 60-minute sports psychology consultation session.

Furthermore, I would like to link up with a number of teams in 2018 to provide sports psychology consultancy, free of charge, and will give greater consideration to teams that have the highest level of engagement in the study.

You can either forward this email to players in the football team or get them to visit www.adaptmind.co.uk. The website contains a little more information on the study and a form to sign up. You can also find details on how to confirm my student status with Staffordshire University.

Please do not forward this link to anyone that is not involved within your football team or club and should only be completed by active players on the team.

If you have any questions about participating then please feel free to respond directly to this email or call me directly.

Kind regards
